Samosas

These crisp, golden samosas are filled with a savoury blend of spiced ground beef, fresh herbs, and onions. Perfect as a snack or appetizer, they’re flavourful, aromatic, and delicious with chutney for dipping.

6-10 appetizer servings.

Ingredients

1 pound lean ground beef
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon each of crushed ginger and garlic
2 tablespoons lemon juice
1/2 teaspoon cumin powder
1/2 teaspoon chilly powder
1 spring onion finely chopped
1 small yellow onion finely chopped
2 tablespoons each of mint and cilantro chopped
1/2 teaspoon garam masala (see recipe here)
2 green chillies deseeded and chopped fine

Store bought Samosa wrappers
Oil for deep frying

Directions

  1. Cook ground beef on medium heat till all the lumps break down and the colour of the meat starts to change.
  2. Add all the rest of the ingredients except for the onions, mint and cilantro combo and the garam masala. Continue cooking till all the water has evaporated and the mixture is completely dry.
  3. Drain the fat from the mixture thoroughly in a colander and drain again on a kitchen towel.
  4. When the mixture cools down, add the onions, mint-cilantro, cut chillies and the garam masala. Taste for salt and adjust to your taste.
  5. Wrap the samosas following the folding instructions on the package. Then fill them and seal well.
  6. Deep fry the samosas on medium to high heat in a wok or a Karhai till crisp and a warm.
